Engineering - Windows

Your sunroom’s most defining feature is its windows. That’s why TEMO takes providing you the best sunroom windows available very seriously. TEMO sunrooms meet or exceed all national engineering codes – and go a step beyond.

TEMO windows are AAMA Gold Label Certified! Only the best win the gold. TEMO’s standard single-pane and double-pane IG windows offer industry-leading performance in the ways that matter most to you, backed by AMMA Gold Label Certification.

To achieve this prestigious and rare recognition, TEMO windows passed 6 demanding tests by the nation’s leading independent testing organization – The American Architectural Manufacturers Association.

AAMA Gold Label Certification assures you that TEMO windows are:

  • Built with durable sash-to-glass construction
  • Air and water tight
  • Secure against intruders
  • Easy to operate

AMMA: Tests and Extended Explanations

Air Leakage – Consumers do not want window frames that leak air. This test allows only 0.3 cubic feet per minute of air to leak past the window. This is a very small amount and the smallest hole can cause the test to fail. The air leakage allowance is set low to reduce the possibility of introducing outside temperature and humidity into the sunroom.

Our windows recorded less than the allowed 0.3 cubic feet per minute air leakage.

Water Infiltration – This test requires that an amount of water equivalent to 8 inches of rain per hour be directed against the window. The test chamber is then put under a vacuum to try to bring water past the window. The test is run for 23 minutes. Water is applied to the window every 5 minutes with a 1-minute break between rounds. If one drop of water falls over the sill during the test, the window fails. This is a very rigorous test procedure and is very difficult to pass.

Not a single drop of water passed over our window sill.

Forced Entry – TEMO elected to have this test run to the higher standards required by the California Association of Window Manufacturers. This forced-entry test involves attempting to break open the window by applying various external forces. This includes pulling the window away from its latch with a force of 200 lbs and an upward force of 75lbs. During each successive step blunt instruments are also used to force open the window.

Our windows include two heavy-duty latches for increased security against forced entry.

SASH TO GLASS CONNECTION - This test is completed to ensure that the sash members will not pull away from the glass. The sash member is placed in a jig and force is applied to one side of the sash. It is released and the distance the sash moved is measured. If the sash moves more than the allowed distance, the sash member fails.

Our sash recorded minimum movement away from the glass.

Ease of Operation – All windows have parameters regulating the force required for their operation. The maximum allowable force is 20 lbs. This extreme level of force would be necessary only on a window that was difficult to operate.

Our windows operate with only 9 pounds of force, allowing easy use by all family members.

STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY - Our windows were subjected to extreme wind loads of 140-mph (Category 4 hurricane), a force of approximately 50 lbs per square foot. The test is run with both positive and negative wind loads. (As the wind passes between buildings it can create a negative force that can pull a window from its frame.) Our windows have also passed Florida Product Approval, a higher standard set for areas exposed to hurricanes.

Our windows withstand hurricane-force winds of up to 140- mph, a higher structural rating normally found only in commercial-grade windows.

*TEMO is the only sunroom manufacturer that has passed this test at these elevated testing levels.
